PACE - Home Care Expectations

Here is an outline of expectations and guidelines related to Home Care services provided by Redwood Coast PACE.  The purpose of home care is to provide their Participants with support in order to keep them living safely in their homes.  Lists are not fully inclusive, so please have PACE Participants contact the PACE Home Care team at 707-443-9747 for any questions.

What PACE Participants should expect from Agape Staff:

  • Staff will treat Participants with dignity and respect.

  • Staff will be trained in the services provided to Participants.

  • Staff will follow Participants’ care plan and provide approved services.

  • Service will start at Participants’ scheduled time (please allow a 15-minute window before and after).

  • Staff will communicate regarding any change in time or date of services as soon as they are able.

What Agape Staff should expect from Participants:

  • Participants will treat staff with dignity and respect.

  • Participants will be at home for scheduled services.

  • Participants will have the necessary supplies available (toiletries, cleaning supplies, etc.)

  • Participants will contact their PACE Home Care team at 707-443-9747 promptly with any concerns.

PACE - Guidelines:

  • Supplies – Participants are responsible for purchasing their own toiletries and cleaning supplies.  If needed supplies are not available in the home, some services may not be provided.

  • Rescheduling – If Participants will not be present for their scheduled services, please contact your PACE Home Care team at 707-443-9747 to notify them/us at least 24 hours in advance.

  • No shows – Staff can wait no more than 15 minutes for Participants’ door to be answered.   Alternate arrangements for entry may be made, for example, a key lock box, however, these must be made in advance with PACE Home Care team.  If there is no answer after 15 minutes and no alternate entry arrangements have been made, no service will be provided for that shift.

  • Cancellations – Participants are under no obligation to accept the services that are offered.  However, if Participants cancel or refuse service more than 3 times, Participants’ service needs will be reassessed, which may lead to a decrease or complete removal of service hours.  Cancellations include: not being present at the scheduled time; not allowing caregivers to enter; sending caregivers away before all services are completed; treating caregivers in a hostile, intimidating or disrespectful manner, causing reassignment

  • Living environment – Home care services are provided for Participants and not for additional people that may reside in their home.  Services will be updated to reflect common living areas.

  • Safety – Caregivers must be assured of their safety while in Participants’ home.  It is our expectation that: Participants and any additional people living in the home will treat caregivers in a respectful and non-threatening manner; pathways will be kept clear for caregivers to safely navigate your home; any weapons will be stowed and securely locked prior to their arrival.

  • Bed bugs – No housekeeping or laundry services will be provided if Participants have an active bed bug infestation and will not resume until it has been cleared.  Personal care services will continue to be provided.

  • Holidays – Redwood Coast PACE observes 11 holidays: New Year’s Day, Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, President’s Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Veteran’s Day, Thanksgiving Day, day after Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve and Christmas Day.  On these days: housekeeping services will not be provided; only participants who receive daily personal care will receive services; services will be limited to personal care needs only; these participants will not receive housekeeping services on these days; if participants have natural supports or live with or near family members, use of alternate supports will be highly encouraged on these days.

  • Housekeeping services – If Participants have been approved for housekeeping services, caregivers may assist them with light housekeeping services.  Please see PACE “Dos and Don’ts of Home Care” form for examples of services they authorize.

  • Personal services – If Participants have been approved for personal care services, caregivers may assist them with basic personal care tasks.  Please see PACE “Dos and Don’ts of Home Care” form for examples of services they authorize.
